The BL Score — Methodology
A proprietary 0–100 composite score measuring individual company fundamental health. The engine evaluates 20 pass/fail checks across four equally-weighted pillars (five checks each); where applicable, checks are scored against sector-typical levels, reducing idiosyncratic noise and amplifying true competitive advantage. The BL Score feeds the Macro-Micro Matrix: your macro regime assessment (Layer 1) takes priority, but within that regime the BL Score (Layer 5) is the primary determinant of stock selection quality.
- 80–100 Elite — Exceptional strength across all four pillars
- 60–79 Strong — Above-average fundamentals, minor weaknesses
- 40–59 Average — Mixed signals; require deeper investigation
- 0–39 Weak — Significant fundamental deterioration
Checks and pass conditions below are the scoring engine's actual criteria.
- Look beyond the total — the 0–100 composite is the headline, but always examine the four pillar breakdowns. A 72 with strong profitability but a weak balance sheet signals different risk than a 72 with a solid balance sheet but challenged profitability.
- Phase context matters — in P0 Recovery (Accumulation), Balance Sheet Strength becomes the most critical pillar: companies with weak balance sheets struggle to capitalize on recovery opportunities. In P1 Expansion (Melt-Up), profitability and capital efficiency are paramount.
- Track trajectory, not just snapshot — a stock improving from 65 to 72 over two quarters is more compelling than one stuck at 68. Watch quarter-over-quarter pillar trends to identify inflection points.
- Use it as a filter, not a guarantee — an 88 is a strong signal of fundamental health, but no metric predicts price action or prevents black swans. Combine with qualitative analysis, market context, and position sizing.
Layer 5 components: Sentiment & Insider Activity · Capital Efficiency · Balance Sheet Strength · Profitability & Earnings Quality · Composite BL Score is computed in-app from the four pillars.
